Tips For the Perfect Fall Micro Wedding in Colorado
If cozy mountain vibes, golden aspens, and crisp autumn air sound like your dream wedding backdrop, then a fall micro wedding in Colorado might be exactly what you're looking for.
As a Colorado wedding photographer, I’ve documented everything from 200-guest mountain resort weddings to 10-person intimate gatherings. And let me tell you micro weddings are where intentionality meets magic, especially in the fall.
This blog is part inspiration, part planning guide perfect for couples dreaming of a smaller, stress-free wedding that’s still incredibly meaningful.
What is a Micro Wedding?
A micro wedding is a celebration with fewer than 50 guests. Think of it as a cross between a traditional wedding and an elopement. You still get the ceremony, vows, and reception, but everything is scaled down, allowing you to focus more on the experience and your closest loved ones.
Why Fall is the Best Season for a Micro Wedding in Colorado
There’s nothing quite like fall in Colorado. From late September through October, the mountains explode in gold, amber, and rust. The cooler weather, fewer tourists, and cozy atmosphere create the perfect setting for a laid-back, elevated wedding experience.
Top perks of a fall micro wedding in Colorado:
Peak foliage for jaw-dropping photos
Cooler temperatures ideal for suits and long gowns
Rustic autumn styling options (candles, velvet, warm tones)
Real Fall Micro Wedding Inspiration in Colorado
Recently, I had the joy of photographing a beautiful fall micro wedding in Winter Park where a couple brought their favorite people to a cozy mountain cabin surrounded by golden aspens.
After an intimate Ceremony on the cabin deck, We explored an aspen filled mountain, while taking jaw dropping pictures as the clouds and fog rolled in.
After sometime running around in newly wed bliss the couple joined their close group of family and friends for a private and intimate dinner together inside the cabin.
There was lots of tears, lots of laughs, but most importantly lots of love.
As dinner concluded and the cake was cut we snuck a few bites upstairs where the couple enjoyed a private night cap in their room where we finished the night jumping on beds with cake and champagne in hand.
Truly living in that just married feeling.
This day was unforgettable.
Details that made it unforgettable:
An outdoor ceremony on the cabin deck with mountain views and vibrant fall trees
An intimate dinner with a private chef
a cozy environment where everyone felt comfortable and close to each other
Personalized vows followed by toasts and personalized hand written cards to each guest as they laughed and cried around the dinner table
It was intimate, emotional, and relaxed. Everything a micro wedding should be.
Planning Tips for Your Fall Micro Wedding in Colorado
1. Choose the Right Location
Colorado is full of breathtaking places for small weddings. Consider:
Private vacation rentals or Airbnbs that allow events
Intimate venues like cabins or lodges
Outdoor spaces in places like Winter Park Breckenridge, Estes Park, or Telluride
Search for micro wedding venues in Colorado that are designed for smaller groups and flexible packages.
2. Keep Your Guest List Intentional
Invite only those who truly support you and make you feel at ease. With fewer people, you can spend real quality time with each guest.
3. Hire a Photographer Who Knows the Area
A local Colorado wedding photographer can help you choose the best time and place for peak foliage and light. They’ll also help you navigate permits and unpredictable mountain weather.
4. Have a Backup Plan for Weather
Fall weather in Colorado can be unpredictable sunshine, snow, or both in one day. Rent a tent or have an indoor option in case of rain or cold.
